Devoted

The Devoted ministry exists to equip college students and young professionals (ages 18-29) to honor, serve, and love Jesus Christ in the midst of all the challenges of life on campus and at work. We meet every Friday evening at 7:00 PM in the church lobby for good coffee, food, fellowship, prayer, and time around God’s Word.

We pray that our young adults will tremble at God’s Word, strive for holiness, stand for the Truth, prioritize the Church, and evangelize the world wherever God places them. Furthermore, we exist to help our students and young professionals integrate deeper into our church family, experience the richness of full-range body-life, and receive particular pastoral care and instruction in one of the most difficult, yet pivotal seasons as a Christian.

Here are some key convictions of our church applied particularly to the Devoted ministry. In other words, here is our “heart beat” and what to expect when you visit: Teaching, Body-life, Fellowship and Outreach.

Teaching

We believe in the inerrancy and sufficiency of the “God-breathed” Word (2 Tim 3:16). There is no other substitute or catalyst for genuine Gospel ministry and personal spiritual growth. Therefore, we seek to lay aside all other means of “attracting young people” as useless if they are not coming primarily for the Word. Everything we do is centered on the Truth of Scripture and we are committed to routinely and regularly studying it, expounding it, preaching it, and trusting it for all things.

Body-Life

We believe that teaching is for the purpose of “equipping the saints for the work of service” (Eph 4:12) and that the church is edified as “the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body” (4:16). Young adults typically have the least amount of responsibility and yet the most time and energy to devote to the exercising and developing of their spiritual gifts within the church. Therefore, we seek to challenge a passive generation to actively “engage in good deeds to meet pressing needs, so that they will not be unfruitful” members of the Body of Christ (Titus 3:14).

Fellowship

We believe that the Christian’s closest relationships ought to be spiritual (Lk 14:26). Therefore, in an internet age of superficial Facebook friendships, we seek to encourage deep and abiding relationships in the church (Prov 18:24, “there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother”). And in a culture that gravitates towards selfish preferences, we seek to encourage our young adults to build these relationships without partiality, across boundaries, with every demographic among God’s people, regardless of status, age, race, or gender (Col 3:11, Ja 2:1).

Outreach

We believe that we are not yet dead nor yet glorified with Christ in Heaven for one chief reason: to “proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light” (1 Pet 2:9). God has given clear marching orders: “Go…and make disciples of all the nations” (Mt 28:19). Therefore, we seek to send our young adults back into the world as courageous evangelists and “lights” in the midst of “a crooked and perverse generation” (Php 2:15). Our prayer is to have a faithful Gospel presence on the college campuses in the greater Winston-Salem area.
